Bullying victim, 16, takes own life

NAGANO — A 16-year-old high school boy from Mochizuki, Nagano Prefecture, was found dead hanging from a tree in a forest near his home and a floppy disk among his possessions suggests the youth took his life because he had been bullied, police said Friday.

According to police, the student went to school Wednesday but returned home before school was out, complaining of nausea. The teenager then disappeared and his body was discovered by a search team consisting of police and his family around 5 a.m. Thursday.

Police later found an apparent suicide note on a floppy disk used for the student’s word processor. The disk contained a file in which the 16-year-old listed the names of peers who he claimed physically bullied him and stole his lunch, police said. The boy’s parents told police that he had seemed depressed during the two days previous to his death.
