Five Foxes Co., a Tokyo-based fashion house, which creates fashion brands based on the concept of "pursuing Japanese culture and traditional beauty while harmonizing with the West to create new sensitivity," has newly introduced clothing inspired by 1,300-year-old design patterns, "Tempyo-Monyo."

Chiyo Fujino, a former specially appointed professor of Nara Women's University, traced the design patterns of national treasures preserved in Todaiji Temple's Shosoin Repository in Nara, and created digital data as "Tempyo-Monyo" using the latest digital technology. Five Foxes produced clothes incorporating these beautiful patterns for their women's lines (Artisan, Basile 28 and Beta) men's line (Artisan) and children's line (Comme Ca Fille) in collaboration with Fujino's "Tempyo-Monyo" in a first for an apparel company.

Tempyo-Monyo is "a unique mixture of East and West," explained Fujino during a discussion with Five Foxes' Executive Vice President and Art Director Kiyoko Takase, held at Café Comme Ca in Ginza on October 14. "It came to Japan together with the Buddhist culture during the Nara Period."
