Japanese like the look of life in Nagano

Sample newspaper article

(Feb. 16)

Translation

Nagano Prefecture is the place that Japanese would most like to move to if they were to relocate to the countryside, a survey by a Tokyo-based NPO showed on Feb. 15. Nagano beat last year’s winner, Yamanashi Prefecture, in the survey of 4,359 people conducted by Furusato Kaiki Shien, a center that provides information and support to people who want to move to the countryside. The popularity of Nagano and Yamanashi, which came second in the latest survey, was partly attributed to their proximity to Tokyo, according to the center. In the survey, Shimane Prefecture rose to third place from eighth in 2014, while Shizuoka and Okayama ranked fourth and fifth, respectively. “More municipalities have strengthened efforts to address people’s growing interest in migration,” a center official said.
