Cooling off sizzling summer streets

As part of a community collaboration project, the Tokyo Station Hotel is offering a special accommodation plan on July 25, which allows customers to join local community activities.

On July 25, an annual summer event to let people experience traditional Japanese ways to cool down as well as to strengthen community relations will be held throughout the Otemachi, Marunouchi and Yurakucho districts in Chiyoda Ward, home to many skyscrapers and one of the biggest business areas in Tokyo.

From 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Gyoko-dori, a street that runs from Tokyo Station to the Imperial Palace, an uchimizu, or the practice of sprinkling water on the ground to lower temperatures, event will be held to cool down the temperature of the ground. Following that and running through 9 p.m. a Bon Odori folk dance event will take place.

For customers who join the event, the hotel will lend them yukata, or casual summer kimono. The hotel will also instruct guests on the proper way to wear yukata and provide an original hand towel (tenugui) for each person. After the event, customers can enjoy the stroll back to the hotel in their yukata.

The plan is available from ¥48,090 for double occupancy including tax, service charge and breakfast.

The most important meal of the day

One of the most popular restaurants from the Big Apple and dubbed the “Breakfast Queen of New York,” Sarabeth’s is opening its new shop in Shinagawa today.

Sarabeth’s is a popular restaurant and famous for its classic American breakfast menu, which includes pancakes, eggs Benedict, French toast, waffles and other goodies. The original restaurant opened on Manhattan’s upper West side and there are now 11 outlets in the U.S.

The new shop, located on the fourth floor of the atré department store in Shinagawa, is the third Sarabeth’s in Japan and allows customers to enjoy their delicious fare throughout the day.

It will open from 9 a.m. for breakfast, and from 11 a.m., a lunch menu, including hamburgers, sandwiches and pasta will be available. After 6 p.m., a dinner menu featuring eight New York specialties will be available along with snacks and cocktails in the bar space.

Also, at the pastry shop, jars of original jam as well as handmade pastries, including cookies, pies, muffins and scones are available for customers to enjoy Sarabetha’s anywhere.

Experience Turkish food and wine

Throughout the month of July, the Royal Park Hotel in Nihonbashi is holding a Turkish food and wine fair at its Symphony coffee shop.

In cooperation with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Embassy of Turkey culture center and Turkish Airlines, the hotel is hosting this fair to promote Turkish cuisine in Japan.

Inviting a multi-award-winning chef, Ismail Ay from Istanbul, customers can enjoy a variety of authentic Turkish dishes and wines served buffet style. Ay has served as the executive chef at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen airport and is a member of the long-established global network of chefs’ associations, the World Association of Chefs’ Societies (WACS.)

The fair is available from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and costs ¥5,400 for adults, ¥4,860 for people over 65 and ¥3,240 for children aged between 4 and 12. Prices include tax but are subject to a 10 percent service charge.

Guests arriving after 7:30 p.m. can enjoy a ¥1,000 discount per person (¥500 for children).
