AN AUTOMATIC BRAKE DEMONSTRATION

(Nov. 13)

Translation

At a car dealership in Fukaya City, Saitama Prefecture, an accident took place on the 10th, while the automatic brakes of a Mazda car were being demonstrated. Mazda announced on the 12th that it will voluntarily refrain from offering such test drives until the cause is made clear. The Saitama Prefectural Police will examine the case from two aspects, namely human error and structural reasons. The test drive was to demonstrate that the automatic brakes work as soon as the radar senses danger. A car was driven toward a large shock-absorbent mat about 7 meters ahead, with the intention that it would stop just before it hit the mat. But the car knocked down the mat and hit the fence it was in front of; a male customer driving the car and a dealership employee suffered sprains and bone fractures.
