AN EXTRAORDINARY SESSION OF THE DIET

(Oct. 16)

Translation

The 185th extraordinary session of the Diet was convened on the 15th. For 53 days to Dec. 6, arguments between the ruling and opposition parties will be carried out over various bills. With its high approval rate, the Prime Minister’s Office will take the initiative over selection and amendment of bills. In addition, the Liberal Democratic Party holds 60 percent of the seats in the House of Representatives, and 50 percent in the House of Councilors. Therefore, those bills that are settled upon by debate within the Administration and the ruling party are likely to go through Diet debate smoothly. The Abe government wants to produce a virtuous economic cycle before raising the consumption-tax rate by 3 percent next spring, and wants the bill for strengthening industrial competitiveness to be passed without fail.
