Annular solar eclipse from the Park Hyatt Tokyo

On May 21, for the first time in 25 years, an annular solar eclipse will be visible from large parts of Japan; for Tokyo, it is the first time in 173 years. The Park Hyatt Tokyo in Shinjuku will offer a special breakfast to observe the cosmic phenomenon from the hotel’s 52nd floor.

Since the next annular solar eclipse visible in Japan will be over Hokkaido on June 1, 2030, customers can make this very rare event more special by taking advantage of views from the hotel.

The hotel’s New York Grill & Bar will be specially open from 6:30-10 a.m. to coincide with the time of the eclipse, which is from 6:19-9:02 a.m. Guests can choose either a breakfast buffet or a Japanese-style breakfast. The buffet will be available at ¥3,000 per person and the Japanese-style option at ¥3,800. Prices include tax but are subject to a service charge. Quantities are limited for the Japanese-style breakfast.

The restaurant will prepare a limited number of special glasses to protect the eyes from direct sunlight when viewing the eclipse.

Gala dinner with seven Michelin chefs

This month, The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka marks the 15th anniversary of its opening. In celebration and to express appreciation to customers, the hotel will hold a gala dinner at the Grand Ballroom on its second floor on May 23, the day the hotel opened in 1997 as the first Ritz-Carlton in Japan.

Inviting seven chefs who have earned Michelin stars or are working in starred restaurants from all over the world, the hotel will offer a special collaboration dinner course that comes with Dom Perignon Champagne.

The dinner is available at ¥66,372 per person including tax but subject to a service charge. Aperitifs will be served from 6 p.m., and the dinner begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m.

The dinner is a part of the hotel’s regional fair, The Ritz-Carlton 1st Annual Asia-Pacific Food & Wine Festival, held through May. During the fair, the hotel will hold other dining events.

Italian meal paired with Champagne

The Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo, in the Marunouchi district will hold a special dinner event featuring Champagne Duval-Leroy at the hotel’s Italian restaurant, Piacere, on May 25.

Champagne Duval-Leroy was founded in 1859 when two Champagne families came together to share their interests. Currently, the company cultivates about 200 hectares, much of which is devoted to the production of high-quality Chardonnay grapes.

The predominance of Chardonnay in the elaboration of the cuvees gives a finesse, lightness and elegance to Duval-Leroy Champagnes.

On the day, four kinds of Duval-Leroy — Brut Design Paris, Organic Brut, Brut Rose and Femme de Champagne 2000 — will be offered, and the restaurant’s chef from Tuscany, Italy, will prepare a special Tuscan course that matches each of the four Champagnes.

The dinner is available at ¥18,000 per person including tax but subject to a service charge. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the dinner will start from 7 p.m.
