Guided stargazing tours in Okinawa
The Shigira Bayside Suite Allamanda, a hotel in Miyakojima, Okinawa Prefecture, is offering a special stargazing tour through Aug. 27.
Miyakojima is three hours by plane from Tokyo and is the fourth largest of the Okinawa islands. The island is known for its ocean views by day and star-sprinkled sky by night.
Special staff who are certified nature guides in Mauna Kea, Hawaii, will show guests how to find various stars and constellations while giving a brief description of the summer sky at night. Also, guests can see planets using a telescope provided.
The tour is available only for guests staying at the hotel and will be offered on Aug. 13, 14, 19, 20, 26 and 27, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., weather permitting. It costs ¥1,050 per person, ¥525 for elementary school students.

Seven kinds of curry for all tastes
The Hotel East 21 Tokyo is holding a curry fair featuring seven varieties of the dish at Brasserie Harmony, through Aug. 31.
The restaurant offers the hotel’s all-time favorite curries at the height of summer. The varieties include beef, seafood, vegetable and the restaurant’s special keema curry. The dishes are served with all-you-can-eat plain rice, turmeric rice or nan.
The fair is held at lunchtime from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every day except on Mondays. The price is from ¥1,680 per dish, which comes with a salad bar and coffee or tea. The price includes tax but a 10 percent service charge will be added.

Cantonese food to beat summer heat
The Ritz-Carlton Osaka is holding a Hong Kong Food Festival at its Chinese restaurant, Xiang Tao, until Aug. 31.
The festival is being held in honor of the hotel company’s newly opened Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong. During the fair, a lottery offers diners the chance to win a pair of round-trip tickets to Hong Kong from Kansai International Airport on Cathay Pacific Airways, or accommodation or restaurant vouchers for two at the Ritz-Carlton in Hong Kong or Osaka.
The Xiang Tao restaurant has been honored with one Michelin star and during the festival offers special Cantonese cuisine courses that are believed to help relieve the summer heat.
The lunch course includes a special selection of Cantonese dim sum and Chinese porridge with your choice of squid, beef, pork, dried scallops or vegetables.
The dinner course includes a soup of double-boiled winter melon with chicken and white ginseng, and a dish of braised fish maw and flower shiitake with abalone sauce.
The lunch course is available from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at ¥3,900 and the dinner course is available from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at ¥12,000. Prices include tax but a 13 percent service charge will be added.
