The Japan Times Web site focuses mainly on Japan and other Asian countries. Almost all the domestic stories from the printed paper are online with their full-length text, as long as they were written by our own writers and correspondents, or from Kyodo News or the Associated Press.
Input a keyword or single keywords separated by spaces and click the "search" button. You do not need to add connector words (like "and") or quotation marks to search for particular phrases. If your search term is a common term, like "Japan," that appears in many articles, the search will most likely fail. Please try more specific search terms or use the Google site search, found in the navigation bar at the top of the page.
If you know the exact date of an article or news event, simply choose the year, month and day from the pull-down boxes in the "Search by publication date" section, then hit the "Search archive" button.
To get a list of Japan Times editorials, click the "Editorial" link in the "Advanced Search" section. There are other various links in the "Advanced Search" section to find not only editorials, but also feature stories, sports news, music reviews and more.
If you want to read articles by a particular writer, just enter their name in the Keyword Search form. Alternatively, you could use the pull-down list in the "Advanced Search" section.
You can enter a date code or topic code in the first keyword blank, followed by another search term in the second blank. Please note that date codes must be in the yyyymmdd format, followed by a hyphen and the word all. For example, to find all articles posted on january 1st, 2001, enter 20010101-all.
Examples of Topic Codes:
ed-all for editorials
eo-all for opinion pieces
ff-all for film reviews
fm-all for music articles
nn-all for news
sp-all for sports, etc.
