Shizuoka: Fujisan Yama-biraki

Ceremony to open the official climbing season of Mount Fuji, featuring yama-biraki (a ceremony to mark the opening Mount Fuji's climbing season) and nyuzan-shiki (a ceremony praying for the safety of the climbers and laying flowers on a monument of Sir Rutherford Alcock (1809-1897), the first British Consul-General in Japan and the first non-Japanese to climb Mt. Fuji in 1860).

● July 10
from 9 a.m.: Yama-biraki ceremony at Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine
from 11 a.m.: Nyuzan-shiki ceremony at Murayama Sengen-jinja Shrine

Location: Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine, Murayama Sengen-jinja Shrine, Fujinomiya, Shizuoka

JR Minobu Line to Fujinomiya Station. From there, (1) Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine: walk 10 min.; (2) Murayama Sengen-jinja Shrine: take taxi (20 min.)
