Gifu: Takayama Matsuri

One of the grandest festival in Japan. Twelve gorgeously embellished floats parade along the streets in the city, escorted by people in gay attire. The festival reaches its climax when all the floats lit up with lanterns are drawn in the city from the evening on 14th.

Schedule & Key events:
● April 14
9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Parade of 12 floats in the city
from 11 a.m.: & from 2:30 p.m.: Performance of karakuri ningyo on three of the floats at Otabisho
1 p.m.-4 p.m. Parade of mikoshi from the shrine to Otabisho
6:30 p.m.-9 p.m. Parade of all floats lit up with lanterns in the city
● April 15
9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Parade of 12 floats in the city
from 10 a.m.: & from 2 p.m.: Performance of karakuri ningyo on three of the floats at Otabisho
12:30 p.m.-4 p.m. Parade of mikoshi from Otabisho to the shrine
