Last year’s Universal Cool Japan campaign, which included a number of manga-, anime- and game-inspired attractions at the major theme park, was such a success that it enjoyed an extended run. Now it returns, bringing with it upgrades to the “Evangelion,” “Attack on Titan,” “Resident Evil” and “Monster Hunter” attractions, while also introducing a new ride that promises to appeal to all kawaii (cute) pop culture fans.
The new attraction uses cutting-edge virtual-reality technology to bring to life the crazy, bubble-gum-colored world of J-pop star Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, whose name has become synonymous with all things kawaii. The immersive ride is being touted as an experience that nothing in the real world can even come close to.
Like last year, Universal Studios will also be offering special foods and souvenir goods related to the event’s rides, and to mark the park’s 15th anniversary Universal Cool Japan 2016 will run for an impressive 164 days. (Yuki Yamauchi)
