Playing with Sound: Yuri Suzuki

All of designer-artist Yuri Suzuki’s works involve an element of play and focus on our relationship with sound, noises, music and electronics. As his first major solo exhibition in Japan, “Playing with Sound” is an interactive show that offers visitors unusual aural experiences and introduces them to the creativity of making music through thought-provoking installations.

His newest creation produced by Dentaku, a London-based company he cofounded in 2013, is a “musical invention kit,” which when wired to household objects turns them into touch-sensitive instruments. Also on display will be “Garden of Russolo,” a collection of gramophone-like boxes that convert random noise into atmospheric sounds, and his seemingly impossible globe-shaped record “The Sound of the Earth,” which, as the needle passes over different countries, plays various audio clips collected from around the world.
