Living National Treasure Fukumi Shimura is a master of senshoku dyeing and weaving, who brings kimono to life with colorful designs using only natural dyes derived from plants. In 2014 she was awarded the 30th Kyoto Prize in Arts and Philosophy and received the prestigious Order of Culture in 2015 for her contributions to the arts.

Now 91, Shimura is being honored with a retrospective of her work at The National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto. The show traces her 60-year career as a textile artist and features representative works, ranging from her earlier pieces to recent designs.
