The Nov. 1 broadcast of "Jonetsu Tairiku" will feature the rare use of a binaural recording system on television — essentially, 3-D for your ears.

The MBS/TBS show focuses on Ichiro Yamaguchi, the lead singer of dance-rock act Sakanaction, and will use binaural recording to introduce his sound projects. The technology itself is meant to reproduce sound to make it seem as if the listener is in the room with the performers as it is being produced, which is why it is sometimes referred to as 360-degree sound. In order to get the full effect, though, the listener should wear a set of headphones.

Yamaguchi has previously used the technology in recording the sound for a live-performance DVD of a Sakanaction concert at Makuhari Messe in Chiba in 2013.

The upcoming "Jonetsu Tairiku" program covers Yamaguchi's work as sound director in a collaboration with Japanese fashion brand Anrealage at a fashion show in Paris last month. It also looks at his recent NF (Night Fishing) project, a label that features self-organized events that include artists such as media art collective Rhizomatiks.

"Jonetsu Tairiku" will air on MBS/TBS from 11 p.m. on Nov. 1.
