German illustrator and painter Michael Sowa, who has won numerous art prizes, including the Olaf Gulbransson Prize in 1995 and the Berlin Book Prize for children's literature in 2004, is best known for his surreal but whimsical works. "Visit," an oil painting in warm shades of brown, orange and green, for example, features a sleeping couple who are completely unaware of a giant spider looming above their heads.
The Megumi Ogita Gallery exhibition is showing Sowa's latest works of rabbits and bears, as well as earlier paintings from his "Security Series."
