'Seductive Smiles: Masterpieces of Ukiyo-e Paintings from the Weston Collection'

ukiyo-e masters are represented in this show of 130 works on loan from the Chicago-based Roger L. Weston collection of Japanese artworks.

Selected from the thousands of pieces of the Weston collection, these works of hand-painted nikuhitsu ukiyo-e, differ from the well-known woodblock prints of artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Hiroshige and Utamaro Kitagawa. Through fine brushwork, paintings allowed artists to reveal even more detail, such as the depiction of individual hairs, eyelashes and the subtle gradation of color.
