What has happened to Elijah Wood? The former child star whose career out-survived most of his contemporaries is slipping further and further into the creep zone. In the decade since his signature role as Frodo in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, his roles have gone from nerdy and vulnerable to nerdy and homicidal. He even starred in "Maniac" (2012), a grisly film about a murderous owner of a mannequin shop — a film that undoubtedly riffed on his pretty-boy features.

"Open Windows" is about a seven out of 10 on the creep scale. Wood plays Nick Chambers, a geek with a deep and abiding love for movie star Jill Goddard (Sasha Grey). She rejects his advances (because, you know, he's just a fan) and goes on with her life, but Nick's pride is sorely wounded. So when a fellow geek, known only as Chord (Neil Maskell), suggests stalking Jill through her own smartphone and computer, Nick agrees. He doesn't mean to hurt her, he only wants to watch her. Yuck.

The title by the way, refers not to windows opening onto Jill's life or anything like that, but the open windows on Nick's laptop. How dreary.
