Rosanjin Kitaoji (1883-1959) pursued a wide range of art, including writing, seal carving, pottery and lacquerware. But even outside of art, he was also known for being a gourmet, and even opened a first-class Japanese restaurant in 1923 called Hoshigaoka Saryou.

Believing that "plates are kimono for food," Rosanjin was particular about dishes as well, which made him build a kiln in Kita-Kamakura to create his own work. This exhibition will display about 90 of Rosanji's plates, including 32 from the Kawashima Collection that were brought back from San Diego. The items in this collection show that Rosanjin's unique aesthetic does not necessarily follow one particular style; May 3-June 29
