Based on the novel by Margaret Mazzantini, "Twice Born" follows middle-aged Gemma (Penelope Cruz) as she travels to Bosnia with her teenage son, where memories of her late husband (Emile Hirsch) come bubbling back up to the surface. This one starts off as a seemingly low-key lost love movie before the flashbacks into wartime Bosnia take it in an altogether unexpected direction, and several plot twists will leave you floored. One of 2013's best.
