Arts Chiyoda 3331 in Tokyo is currently hosting a 3/11 Movie Festival featuring documentaries that focus on the aftermath of the March 11, 2011, quake as well as talks by some of those involved in the recovery efforts in the Tohoku region.
The monthlong event, which screens several films during its span, "will be an occasion to revisit the memories of the Great East Japan Earthquake as it fades away with time," organizers say.
One of the documentaries, "Futaba Kara Toku Hanarete" ("Far Away from Futaba"), directed by Atsushi Funahashi, is being shown on March 21 from 7 p.m. The movie focuses on the 1,400 residents of Futaba, who were forced to leave town following the Fukushima nuclear crisis and remain displaced to this day.
Screening on March 24 is "Bokura wa Koko de Ikiteiku" ("We Will Continue Living Here"), directed by Kazuya Shimoyama, which tells the story of an Iwate Prefecture-based singer who takes a caravan along the Tohoku coastline to help distribute food to the locals.
A portion of the ticket sales of this festival will also be donated toward organizations aiding Tohoku's recovery.
The 3/11 Movie Festival at Arts Chiyoda 3331 in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward runs till March 30. Tickets are ¥1,000 per film or ¥15,000 for a pass that is valid for the duration of the festival. For more information, visit 311movie.wawa.or.jp.
