The oyster can be your world in Ishikawa

Fresh, plump oysters are the tempting offerings at this weekend’s Secchu Jumbo Kaki Matsuri 2014 (Jumbo Oyster Festival in the Snow 2014) in Ishikawa Prefecture’s city of Anamizu.

As a part of Anamizu’s ongoing winter gourmet events, the festival features a 300-meter=long grill on which participants can cook jumbo oysters to their preference — all for a price of ¥1,000 per serving.

Hiroshima Prefecture is perhaps most famous for its oysters, but many say that the ones caught in Ishikawa are more delicious thanks to the cold ocean temperatures of the Sea of Japan. Specialties of the fishery town, including sea cucumbers and seaweeds, will also be available for purchase. Once you’ve eaten your fill, you can join in the event’s karaoke contest and belt out your favorite tunes alongside the locals.

Secchu Jumbo Kaki Matsuri 2014 takes place at Asunaro Hiroba plaza near the Anamizu City Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 25, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 26. Oysters are ¥1,000 per serving. Starting times of the Karaoke competition vary. For more information call 0768-52-3790, or visit www.town.anamizu.ishikawa.jp/kanko/maimon/kaki.html.
