Staff Writer

Leo Lionni was an accomplished painter, sculptor and graphic designer, but he is best known as the acclaimed author and illustrator of popular children’s books such as “Swimmy” and “Frederick.”

His illustrations are colorful and detailed, mixing a variety of mediums including oil paint, collage, and pastels. The combination of his illustrations, narratives and lively animal characters earned him many prestigious awards, with several of his books winning The New York Times Best Illustrated Book of the Year. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth, Bunkamura the Museum is presenting some of the author’s lesser-known works alongside several of his most famous picture-book illustrations; June 22-Aug. 4.
