The port city of Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, located on the country's Noto Peninsula, will be filled with things to do for one week from the end of May as it kicks off its Citizens' Festival.
One of the biggest attractions at the event, which runs from May 26 till June 2, will be a fireworks display that will take place at the Marine Town venue.
The 20-minute spectacular will start at 8:40 p.m. on June 1. Organizers will set alight a total of 15,555 fireworks, the largest amount of fireworks in the event's history.
The display is also reportedly the largest in Japan in terms of the number of fireworks launched per minute — around 777 — which makes for impressive viewing.
Visitors will be able to observe various types of ships at the Marine Town location. One activity allows festival-goers to take a look inside some vessels belonging to the Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF), Japan Coast Guard and the transport ministry. This naval tourism is scheduled for June 1 and 2 (only MSDF vessels on the second day). An exhibition on June 1 will feature emergency vehicles from organizations that include the police and fire department.
The event will also feature food booths, musical performances and parades.
