Mitsu Dan burst out of nowhere in her 30s last year to permeate the tabloid media, after her performance in this racy film as a seemingly demure but actually predatory heroine with a past full of dark sado-masochistic secrets. Director Toru Kamei conjures up the spirit of classic Nikkatsu roman-poruno, a lineage solidified by the presence of Dan's industry predecessor, Aya Sugimoto, who starred in the recent remakes of the old "Hana to Hebi" movies. Great art, no, but a starlet is born.
