Dear rockers, music festivals in the summer are not the only major events of the year. There’s unfortunately — or fortunately — no time to waste sitting at home next to the heater. Seek out the warmth of a mosh pit instead, because a ton of end-of-the-year live gigs are ready to get you jumping.

J-rock fans in Tokyo are lucky to have Live DI:GA Judgement 2012. It takes place at various venues in the city, but the shows at Shibuya’s Club Quattro on Dec. 30 and 31 (1:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m.; ¥3,500 in advance; www.livedigajudgement.net) stand out. Dirty Old Men, tricot and Owarikara are included in the bill for the first day, with 0.8 Byou to Shogeki, Unison Square Garden and Monobright slotted for the second day. It will also be a good chance to check out new-comers such as Hinto and cinema staff.

If you’re looking for some more MTV-friendly alt rock, check out GT2013 taking place at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo on Dec. 31 (1:30 p.m.; ¥5,250 in advance; www.livemasters.jp/gt2013) The all-night event is set to feature dance-friendly rock acts such as Sakanaction and the telephones, as well as Champagne and The Novembers who’ll bring a sharper tone to the night.

Club Quattro in Nagoya is going to host the Nenmatsu Chousei Gig 2012 on Dec. 28 and 29 (3:30 p.m.;¥3,000 in advance; www.vintage-rock.com), with the highlight being Okamoto’s on the first day, and Quattro and Sawagi on the next.

In Osaka, fans of noise and underground rock may want to check out the two-day Brilliant Nenmatsu at Conpass in Higashi Shinsaibashi on Dec. 28 and 30 (6 p.m., 5 p.m.; ¥2,500 in advance; www.conpass.jp). Japanese noise music pioneer Merzbow is set for a solo performance on the first day, while drummer Tatsuya Yoshida will perform on the second day with all participating bands, including Ruins Songs, Ruins Alone and Acid Mothers Temple. Up-and-coming noise/black metal act Vampillia is the opening act on Dec. 30.

Rockers in Osaka will be able to attend Radio Crazy on Dec. 29 and 30 (11 a.m.; ¥7,800 in advance; www.radiocrazy.fm). Hosted by FM802 at Intex Osaka, this is one of the biggest events planned for the city and is set to feature The Bawdies, Polysics and Total Fat in the lineup.

Pe’z will spend a white Christmas in Hokkaido for the En-Musubi 2012 tour at cube garden in Sapporo on Dec. 24 and 25 (5:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m.; ¥4,500 in advance; www.worldapart.co.jp/pez)

For those in Fukuoka, The Mods will help finish the year off with their forward-looking rock ‘n’ roll at Drum Logos (Dec. 31; 8 p.m.; ¥4,900 in advance, www.live-drum.com). One of the guests is going to be a silent-comedy duo Gamarjobat. What’s a better way to end the year than with a few laughs? (Daisuke Kikuchi)
