The performing arts are taking over Kanagawa Prefecture's capital for a weeklong event called TPAM in Yokohama. The event hopes to foster an atmosphere where participating artists can interact with one another to exchange ideas and network.
TPAM has a lot to offer art lovers across the city. The four main venues for events are the Yokohama Creativecity Center, BankART Studio NYK, Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Number 1, and the Kanagawa Arts Theatre. One of the most interesting aspects of the event is the chance for artists to meet and even collaborate together for performances.
One of the many offerings at the event will be by art collective Chim↑Pom, who will be holding an exhibition at BankART. Their works focus on themes such as life and death to create imagery with powerful social messages. Chim↑Pom's works have also caught international attention. Another recommended show will take place at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse: Masato Suzuki × Megumi Kamimura's "The Well-Tempered Clavier," which gives a new take on musical interpretation through dance, will be performed in two parts.
Created in 1995, TPAM originally debuted as a performing-arts showcase called the "Tokyo Performing Arts Market." It moved to Yokohama in 2011 and the "Market" in the title was changed to "Meeting," emphasizing the event's new focus on exchange and networking.
