“Enjoying Ceramic Art: Gourmet of Ceramic”

The Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art, The Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park

by Tomoko Hori

Staff Writer

Most ceramics are created for daily use as plates and bowls, cups and other dining ware. Under the theme of “gourmet,” this exhibition explores how ceramics have been designed and used to complement and emphasize the foods being served on them. This has long been one of the main influences on the progression of ceramics, even today.

The show features decorative clay pots from Papua New Guinea to modern coffee sets by famous British potters Lucie Rie and Hans Coper. There will be special viewing workshops for small groups of people on Nov. 22 and 23, where visitors can enjoy closer look at some of the exhibits; till Dec. 11.
