As girls in Japan finish up their Girl's Day celebrations, they can look forward to more recognition in the form of International Women's Day on March 8.
That day recognizes the economic, political and social achievements of women through various activities worldwide.
For International Women's Day in Tokyo, female musicians and artists are gathering for the GoGirls Tokyo Music Night at The Pink Cow restaurant in Shibuya on March 13. The inaugural event promises a night of live music, artistic performances and some serious girl power, including artists such as Japanese rock band Bo-Peep and electro-rock band 19 Mirrors.
The event is organized by GoGirls Tokyo, a local organization whose goal is to empower and provide opportunities for women in the music scene.
All proceeds of the ¥2,000 entrance fee will be donated to HELP Asian Women's Shelter in Tokyo. The shelter provides emergency housing relief and support to women in Japan.
