Love, work, leisure, study, giving birth and raising kids. These days a lot of responsibilities are heaped on women. It's enough to make even the mightiest of super-women tired.
On March 3, to celebrate the Japanese Doll Festival, Tokyo Joshi Project will hold an exhibition titled "Why Don't You Pink." The exhibition attempts to bring a little feminine delicacy back to women's lives by pursuing a theme based on the statement: "It takes all things to make a world, but it would be a bit more fun if we colored those pink." Various items, which are normally dark colored, such as an ink stone used for calligraphy, have been re-created in pink by 33 artists. Some of these pieces will also be available to buy as well.
During the exhibition period, some workshops will be held, including "Pink de Shodo," which will consist of a calligraphy lesson led by Megumi Hioki, who is a Japanese calligrapher and designer. Another workshop will show participants how to decorate their iPhone cases and this will be done in cooperation with the iPhone Joshi-bu (girl's club), which is a team that claims to be seeking "happy and convenient lives" for young women who own iPhones.
The "Pink" event might not exactly be carving new feminist territory, but it is definitely a girl-focused break from the modern woman's hectic day.
"Why Don't You Pink" will be held from March 3-27 at the @btf gallery in Chuo Ward, Tokyo. It is open from 11 a.m. till 7 p.m. The gallery is closed on Mondays and holidays. Admission is free. For more information, call (03) 3470-6750, or visit tokyojoshi.com.
