In the Record Bag: DJ Sarasa

by Mariko Lochridge

When it comes to reppin’ Japan’s B-girls, no one does it better than DJ Sarasa. Her skills have caught the attention of music lovers worldwide and of course here in Japan.

Golden Oldie: Eric B. & Rakim — “Juice (Know The Ledge)” (Fontana MCA). This is a killer tune.

New Classic: Talib Kweli — “I’m On One” (101 Distribution). A lot of people will say Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind,” but this is my pick. Ten years down the road people will still play it.

Floor Filler: House of Pain — “Jump Around” (Rhino/Ada). Never fails to get the crowd going.

Must Listen: All songs by Blitz the Ambassador (Embassy MVMT). I’ve been listening to a lot of music by African artists lately. Great stuff coming out of the West African scene in particular.

DJ Sarasa spins at Studio Bitters in Yokohama on Feb. 27. For more information, visit www.djsarasa.com.
