World-famous singer Rita Coolidge performs in Tokyo and Nagoya Oct. 14-20. Coolidge's versatile voice, ranging from the clear to the sultry, has captivated audiences in genres including country, folk, pop, rock and R&B for nearly four decades.
Starting her career as backing vocalist for rock 'n' rollers such as Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix, Coolidge got her big break singing vocals on "Superstar" on the "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" album by Joe Cocker in 1970.
As her solo singles hit the charts, she became known as The Delta Lady, inspiring Leon Russell to write a song of that name, and she twice won a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance duetting with then-husband Kris Kristofferson. She is also known for the song "All Time High" in the 1983 James Bond film "Octopussy."
Now aged 62, Coolidge still performs around the world, and on her Japan tour she will draw from a well of hit tunes that include "We're All Alone" and "(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher," as well as from her 2006 jazz release "And So In Love".
