Jean-Laurent Sasportes, a dancer who has worked with one of the great figures of modern dance, choreographer Pina Bausch, will tour Japan in collaboration with double bassist and composer Tetsu Saitoh from Sept. 2-24.
Born in Casablanca, Sasportes became a solo dancer in Bausch’s German dance company Tanztheater Wuppertal in 1979, and contributed much to her bold dance aesthetic.
“I hope that our performances will demonstrate that without eye-catching costumes, showy lighting or spectacular sounds, one dancer can create a solid world of dancing,” Saitoh has said.
Sasportes and Saitoh’s tour begins Sept. 2, 7 p.m., at Asahi Art Square in Sumida Ward, Tokyo (includes live painting from Yuji Kobayashi). Tickets are 3,000 yen in advance (tel. 3353-6866). The duo then play Nagoya, Kyoto, Okayama, Hiroshima, Iwakuni and Hamamatsu before the tour finishes at the Session House in Shinjuku (3,000 yen in advance, tel 3266-0461) on Sept. 24.
