The quiet, affectionate and unassuming Akira is one of those little sweethearts that suddenly lost his loving home and owner when age required said owner to move to assisted living — no dogs allowed. It's heart-breaking for both parties, but the canine side has no idea why his happy world has suddenly gone. That's just the way the cookie crumbles. Speaking of cookies, Akira is a bit on the chubby side, but he loves to walk and, even at age 10, likes playing with toys. His needs are few and he doesn't make work. Poodles don't shed and don't aggravate allergies, but he will need trims. He is undemanding and so endearing. He will gaze at you as if he is looking at a god or goddess. For Akira, you are happiness — so close and yet so far. MACHIKO NAKANO PHOTO
