With Mackerel, the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" comes to mind.

An American shorthair with likely a bit of American curl thrown in, Mackerel looks like a bit of a toughie. And, with unsteady eyes that have trouble focusing, she can also look somewhat shifty. She is neither.

Mac is a little sweetie that loves people. When her elderly owner went into a home, however, the cat got left behind.

Mackerel has coped in the shelter by calmly going within, retreating into her own little world.

She tolerates the other cats, but doesn't seem to enjoy being around them. Still, Mackerel is no cold fish. She would be the perfect complement to a working owner or someone living alone.

Mackerel would be a heart-warming feline companion, one content when on her own but playful and affectionate when her loved one is home. Please give little Mac a chance.
