Tokyo: What do you think of the move by two hotels at Tokyo Disney Resort to offer same-sex marriage ceremonies?

I think it’s a good idea. As a part of society, homosexuals don’t cause trouble, and we all have the right to the same level of freedom. So I agree with the decision.

Lee Sullivan
Japanese student, 38 (British)
I like the fact that Disney are trying to move with the times. However, Disney is all about the “traditional” family holiday. I’m all for same-sex marriage, but is Disney the right place?

Miho Tohmatsu
Accordion teacher, 32 (Japanese)
It is a fantastic thing. The fact that the ceremony is held at Disneyland means that it will undoubtedly receive an increased level of media attention towards gay rights.

Hitomi Tanaka
Shop manager, 37 (Japanese)
I think it is a good thing that Disney has done. Gay people seem to embrace life and be sensitive, and Tokyo Disneyland is about fantasy and a great place for them to marry.

Jonathan Bojarzin
Music teacher, 43 (Canadian)
If same-sex couples want to celebrate their union at Disneyland, they should be able to have civic unions, just like any other couple in love. Church weddings are another matter altogether.

Rhys Milford
English instructor, 27 (British)
If you truly believe that everyone is equal then there is no reason to deny anyone happiness. Gay or straight, we still feel the same emotions, from ecstasy to depression. There is no difference.
