Who would you like to see triumph in the upcoming election?

by Richard Smart

Naomi Imai, 48
Part-time worker
I read a comparison of all the political parties in a newspaper this morning, and I think that New Komeito has the best policies, so they may be in with a chance on Aug. 30.

Sebastian Nowak, 34

Businessman (German)
I’d rather see the Democratic Party of Japan win, simply because I’m not a fan of (Prime Minister Taro) Aso. I don’t expect much to change if the DPJ does win, though.

Noriko Sugao, 32
Sales
Through a process of elimination, I will vote for the DPJ — the rest of the parties that stand a chance of winning seats have done something wrong over the last few years.

Tsuyoshi Obu, 30
Engineer
I think the DPJ is likely to win because the ruling Liberal Democratic Party has lost favor with the Japanese public. I don’t know anybody that still respects them.

Masayuki Ozaki, 50
Salaryman
The LDP has not done well nor delivered on any of its key promises since the last Lower House election in 2005, so the DPJ should be given a chance.

Kyosuke Inaba, 20
Bartender
I haven’t decided who I want to win yet because I haven’t had a chance to see the reports on the parties on television — I’ve been working far too much.

Toshihiko Sato, 24
Salaryman
I think the DPJ under Yukio Hatoyama will win the Lower House election. The Liberal Democratic Party has not done enough to deserve to stay in power.

Takashi Nakamura, 66
Taxi driver
The Democratic Party of Japan is likely to win this time around. The LDP has not done well in recent years, so there is a real mood for change among the public.

Shizuka Nakaoki, 35
Office worker
There isn’t really any political party out there I would like to win, but I feel there needs to be major changes in Japan, so maybe the DPJ would be best for the country.
