What do you make of Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda’s decision to quit?

Shigemi Kurono
Housewife
I was upset and disappointed. Fukuda acted irresponsibly by quitting after only a year in office. I think we should be allowed to vote for our prime minister.

Young people want a leader who’s like a video game character, able to handle challenges and compete well against others. Fukuda couldn’t meet these expectations.

If he believed he wasn’t the best person for the job or he couldn’t deal with the issues, then leaving his position for someone else better qualified is a brave decision.

Atsushi Ogihara, 37

The LDP would not have been able to win the election with Fukuda as PM. I think Yuriko Koike would make an excellent leader; she’s strong and has lots of experience.

I suspect he was overwhelmed by the responsibilities of the job. I hope the Japanese people can forgive him, move on and fully support the next prime minister.

Yuko Kosaka

Fukuda shouldn’t have quit so easily. He was focused on the next election when he should have been solving Japan’s problems. He isn’t a good role model.
