Are you prepared for the next major earthquake?

by

Louis Chan
Nurse, 30 (Hong Kong)
I would try to stay up to date with the news and special announcements — if possible, I would check the Internet — but in terms of emergency supplies, I don’t have anything prepared.

Kathryn Booze
Teacher, 30 (U.S.)
Not really. Where I’m from, near the East Coast of the U.S., we never get earthquakes. The ones we’ve had this year in Japan haven’t been so bad and I hope they don’t get worse.

Katrina Ng
Finance, 27 (N.Z.)
I used to live with an emergency planning officer, so our flat was prepared. We had spare water, canned foods, a torch, candles, matches, a first aid kit. Better to be safe than sorry!

Lloyd Huw
Musician, 30 (U.K.)
I’ve got a safe place in mind in my flat and I’m aware of where the emergency areas are, but if you are talking about extra cans of green beans lying around the house — no — I don’t have that.

Sayaka Kawase
Human resources, 23
I don’t know where my local evacuation area is, but I know a safe route home from work, and my friend keeps an emergency map on her, so I would look at that if I was with her. I think that’s OK.

Yaeko Yokokura
Temp worker
I’m sure that at some point there will be a large earthquake but the feeling of danger doesn’t hit me in my everyday life, so I don’t have anything at all prepared, unfortunately.
