"Catch 22" by Joseph Keller. It's got a different sense of humor. It's the sort of book that shouldn't have been turned into a movie because it's the way it's written that is great.

"Wild Swans," by Jung Chang. My mum's been telling me to read it for the last 10 years and I finished it this morning. I think everyone has a copy. It's a little sad, but a great read.

"The Music of Chance" by Paul Auster. I really like this author. He writes about real life. In Japanese we say "time slip," which is like fantasy.

"Tokyo Underworld" by Robert Whiting. I read it shortly after I arrived in Tokyo. He gives you tremendous insight into Japanese culture, particularly pertaining to gaijin. The books are meticulously researched. It'll make a great movie.
