• Commissioning Editor
    • The Japan Times seeks a full-time commissioning editor for its Life & Culture Division. We are seeking an experienced editor with a sound working knowledge of Japanese culture, arts and entertainment.
    • The commissioning editor’s duties include:
    • • Commissioning and editing Life & Culture content in print and online
      • Managing page layout and publishing schedules
      • Proofing content
    • The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to work in a team environment and handle tight deadlines under pressure.
    • The successful candidate must have a valid working visa and be a native English speaker (knowledge of Japanese is preferable but not essential). Prior experience with layout software is a plus.

  • Editorial Assistant
    • The Japan Times seeks a bilingual person to work part time (up to 32 hours per week) as an editorial assistant in the Editorial Department’s Life & Culture Division. We seek dedicated team players who are university graduates with excellent writing skills in both Japanese and English, and a good knowledge of Japanese affairs. Prior journalism experience is a plus.
    • A strong interest in and/or knowledge of Japanese news is an advantage.
    • Layout and Japanese-language skills are also a plus.
