Tokyo Gov. Naoki Inose said after meeting New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Tuesday that the two sister cities will cooperate to realize the Japanese capital's ambition of hosting the 2020 Summer Olympics.

During a trip to New York, Inose told reporters that Bloomberg had assured him that the Big Apple will do all it can to support Tokyo's bid. The host venue will be selected later this year from three candidates: Tokyo, Madrid and Istanbul.

Inose indicated that strengthening cooperation between the two cities in infrastructure development and other areas will enhance the Olympic bid, saying, "Most advanced cities share challenges, such as ensuring safety and security, as well as (developing) meticulous transportation networks."

Inose also brought to New York cherry tree seeds from Miharu, Fukushima Prefecture.
