A movie theater in Tokyo will screen a movie with English narration and subtitles Tuesday in which 37 pupils, teachers and parents talk about their experience of the March 2011 quake-tsunami that destroyed Kadonowaki Elementary School in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture.
The film, "Living Through March 11, 2011 — Words That Remember the Great East Japan Earthquake," was directed by Kenji Aoike, who made several documentaries about the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake, which resulted in the loss of more than 6,400 lives.
Kadonowaki is one of the 14 elementary schools in Ishinomaki that were destroyed or badly damaged by the tsunami. Of the city's 170,000 inhabitants, 3,943 lives were lost, including 182 elementary school students.
The Pole Pole Higashi Nakano theater, near JR Higashi Nakano Station, will show the movie from 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Tickets cost ¥1,500 for adults, ¥1,300 for university students, ¥1,000 for junior high and high school students and senior citizens, and ¥700 for elementary school pupils. For further details, please phone (03) 3371-0088.
