Panasonic Corp. is developing a tablet computer for business customers that runs on Microsoft Corp.'s Windows 8 operating system under their new business partnership, sources said Friday.
The tablet, which will have a 20-inch liquid crystal display panel, will be the world's first of its kind to come with 4K technology that displays images four times finer than existing high-definition resolutions, the sources said.
The new product is expected to hit the market in summer, they said.
With an eye to turning its business around, the electronics maker is trying to invest less on its flagging television business and putting more focus on development of products for business consumers.
Panasonic had earlier formed business alliances with IBM Corp. and General Motors Co. It is pursuing joint research and development with IBM of electric appliances utilizing cloud computing, while it is developing a new information system for automobiles together with GM.
