Robert Capa (born Endre Ernö Friedman) was a photojournalist known for his documentation of the brutal horrors of war. He often risked his life by taking action shots on the frontline, but he also focused on ordinary locals affected by the instabilities of war.
In 1934, Capa met Gerta Pohorylle, a German artist who he helped train as a photojournalist. Pohorylle took the name Gerta Taro and become Capa's professional partner and lover. Their relationship was so close that their photo-styles are sometimes hard to tell apart.
Taro died in 1937 while covering the Spanish Civil War and Capa was killed in 1954 by a landmine at Thai Binh in Vietnam. This exhibition commemorates both photographers in a dual retrospective that comprises 300 photographs; Jan. 26-March 24.
