Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) is well-known for the opulence and eroticism of his works, which often focused on the female nude, and for his preoccupation with themes of death.
This exhibition, which commemorates the 150th anniversary of Klimt's birth, focuses on the early ages of Klimt's career, showcasing pieces that had yet to utilise the stylistic ornateness that he later became famous for. Such works, though less glamorous than his representative pieces, give insight to how the extraordinary talent of the artist developed. On display are 10 of Klimt's oil paintings and 30 sketches that have been collated from collections both in Japan and overseas; Feb. 22-April 7.
