A fair is being held in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, on May 11 and 12 to offer various cultural experiences from around the world.

Suita International Plaza 2013 will run 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Admission will be free.

Featured programs will include Aboriginal art from Australia, yoga from Bangladesh, music and dance from Ghana, Chinese calligraphy, and picture books in non-Japanese languages. Participants can also attend a tea ceremony for ¥200 on both days and try on kimono for ¥300 on May 11.

Free legal counseling session for foreigners

Foreign residents can attend a free legal counseling session with judicial scriveners covering financial disputes, rent, wages and other daily problems. Scheduled for May in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, the session will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Interpretation will be available. Reservations must be made by calling (0798) 32-8680 as only six people will be accepted.

Museum of Ethnology showing free movies

The National Museum of Ethnology in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, will show the U.S. film "My Sister's Keeper" from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 12.

It will also show two Japanese movies related to its exhibition on Madagascar, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on May 11 and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 25.

Admission is free and no reservations are required, but numbered tickets, which will be distributed from 10 a.m. at the museum on the day of each showing, will be necessary.

The museum is a 15-minute walk from Koen Higashiguchi Station on the Osaka Monorail.

Japanese classes being offered in Nagoya

The Nagoya International Center will host Japanese-language classes for nonnative speakers on Sundays from May 19 to July 28.

There will be seven courses: basic conversation, conversation-1, conversation-2, conversation-3, kana, kanji-1 and kanji-2. Start times will vary depending on the course. Applications will be accepted at the center between 11:30 a.m. and noon May 12.

Participation is ¥2,500 for the entire period, but participants also need to purchase textbooks for ¥500 to ¥1,000.

Tropical fruit fair under way at Nagoya park

Nagoya City Togokusan Fruits Park is continuing its tropical fruit fair through Monday.

In addition to an exhibition and market for tropical fruit and other foods from Okinawa, there will be stage performances and lectures on how to cook different kinds of fruit and make paper from bananas. The park is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
