Starting in October, The Japan Times will be offering digital subscriptions.
Since 1997, The Japan Times has offered free access to its wide range of online content, which includes both domestic and overseas news coverage. To maintain our levels of journalism while offering news online services to readers, we will be charging for online access and limiting the number of stories that users can read free of charge.
Five articles will be available free of charge to all users each month. Also, the front page and category index pages of the Japan Times website will remain free to all users. Once users have completed a simple registration process, they will be able to read up to 20 articles each month for free.
Readers wishing to read more will be offered two possible subscription plans: Digital Lite or Digital. Digital Lite plans will be able to view 80 stories a month. Digital subscriptions will
Subscribers to The Japan Times / International New York Times print edition, which launches Oct. 16, will enjoy free access to all content on The Japan Times website in addition to free access to the NYTimes.com website and selected apps. For more information, see our press release.
