NIIGATA – Three persons were killed and seven were injured Saturday in a collision involving two cars and a truck on the Hokuriku Expressway in the city of Niigata, police said.
The accident occurred at around 8:50 a.m. when a car driven by Otome Zenko, 74, with five passengers was read-ended by another car. Then a truck traveling behind the two cars ran into Zenko’s car.
Police said Zenko was killed in the accident together with two passengers in her car — Miyuki Myojin, 74, and Yoshiko Kane, 67. Three other passengers suffered injuries.
Shinobu Tomidokoro, 21, the driver of the car that first collided with Zenko’s car, was injured, as were the other two people in Tomidokoro’s car and the truck driver.
