MITO, Ibaraki Pref. – Ibaraki Prefectural Police on Monday identified a teenage girl who died over the weekend after being found in bushes in Iwai, Ibaraki Prefecture, and said an autopsy showed she had been strangled.
Erina Hirata, 16, was a first-year student at Iwai Nishi High School. She died Sunday after being found unconscious and taken to a hospital.
Hirata was not wearing shoes, but as her socks were not dirty, police suspect that somebody carried her to the bushes and dumped her there. Her purse and cell phone were missing, they said.
